A Hero's Tale
Being a hero was something Grace never thought she could be. Having grown up in a small farming community in New Zealand, she always felt quite small. It was only after applying to the fire academy in Wellington and being accepted that her life really began. After graduating from the academy, she attended a World Convention for Firefighters. It was there that she met her soulmate. After continuing a long-distance correspondent relationship for nearly a year, Grace decided to be brave and make the move to Wyoming. Now, just two weeks after her move, she is working at the firehouse with the love of her life. Today, as they sat down to dinner, the alarm sounded. A fire had started in the forest surrounding town and had spread to a farmhouse near the edge of the forest. Since Grace was the lightest, she was sent up the ladder to get to the trapped family in the second story. Through her fast reflexes, all the family was saved. Days later, Grace heard a knock on her door. When she opened it, she found the youngest daughter of the family she rescued. In her hand was a card and box. Opening the card, she read of how, after sifting through the debris, the family had found a special family heirloom that had survived. It was a silver monogrammed pendant bearing the initials GVG. It had belonged to the matriarch of the family that helped establish this small town. She, too, had been named Grace. The family decided to pass down the pendant to Grace, their guardian angel.
