Eduardo and Luciana’s romance was the stuff fairy tales were made of. They had met while out with their pals dancing and had been inseparable since, but their fairytale was about to be bombarded with the harsh truth of war. Canada was joining the war efforts, and Eduardo was being sent to France. Luciana was being sent to the workforce to help prepare the bombs for the boys in the field. Each day the love birds would write to each other of their hopes and dreams for the future. One day, a package arrived for Luciana containing a beautiful pendant featuring Eduardo’s and Luciana’s initials as well as Eduardo’s last name. In his letter, Eduardo explained that he had a silversmith make the pendant in France and when he returned he hoped to marry Luciana and share his last name. Luciana was over the moon with excitement and couldn’t wait to show the other bomb girls. However, because she worked on the cordite line, she had to leave the necklace in her locker. Oh well, she thought, the war will be over soon. Soon enough, upon Eduardo’s return, their fairytale would begin.
