This detailed antique medal was designed by French sculptor and painter, Alphee Dubois, 1831-1905. It represents the 3rd Paris World Fair, called Exposition Universelle, which was held May 1 - November 10, 1878. The fair celebrated the recovery of France after 1870-1871 Franco - Prussian war. This exposition was by far on a larger scale than any previously held anywhere in the world. Germany was the only country not represented in this fair.
