The Heart of a Teacher
Sylvia stands at the chalkboard in the empty classroom. With one hand, she traces her name written in cursive on the board. Will the children like her, she wonders? More importantly, will she be able to help them learn? Each child has a different way of learning and comes from a different situation in life. How can she ever figure this out? Trying to stop her thoughts of worry, Sylvia bows her head to pray; her hands hold onto the pendant her parents gave her last weekend. They were so proud of her accomplishments and believed in her. Sylvia so wanted to prove them right and be the teacher she was called to be. Breathing in deeply, she asked God to take away her fear and replace it with a love for her children. As she finished, a knock came on her door and in walked her first student, a bright-faced little girl with blonde, braided pigtails, smiling and ready to learn. Yes, this is what it is all about, Sylvia thought, as she went to welcome her first pupil.
