Description

Description

Dating back to the Third Century, IHS was known as a "Christogram", an ancient way of writing Jesus Christ. The letters I and J, of the Latin alphabet were used interchangeably until 1524. Christians shortened the name of Jesus by only writing the first three letters of his name in Greek, resulting in the monogram being commonly represented as IHS. This symbol now permeates Christian art all over the world.

Monogram of Jesus

An artistic and reverent presentation. Accurate representation and high quality work. I am deacon, in the Catholic Church and reverent representation of religious imagery is important as my wife and myself are often in front of the congregation. This piece has received the approval o parishioners, fellow deacons, their wives and the priests we serve with. A great statement on the importance of Holy Week.
