Remembrance and a Life Celebrated
Sitting on her bed, she let her hand caress the hat sitting on the bed beside her. A fresh wave of sadness crashed over her, and she buried her face into her handkerchief. It seemed as if she had been sitting this way for ages now that her house had finally gone quiet. Today, she had set up the memorial for her Danny. His aircraft had gone down in enemy territory, and he had perished in the concentration camp. As the war was still raging, she was not able to get his body released, so she had the memorial made. A member of the Royal Air Force had stepped forward at the service and presented her with the hat from Danny’s parade uniform. Toying with the badge on his hat, an idea crossed her mind. Her childhood friend was an apprentice for a renowned silversmith. She would ask him to make a pendant from the badge so that her Danny could be with her always.
